How to stay safe exercising outdoors on hot summer days

Dorothy Cox, 65, of Worcester walks five times around the trail in Lake Park on a toasty Thursday.

WORCESTER Worcester’s Dorothy Cox was taking her regular five-mile walk at Quinsigamond State Park last week when the temperature was in the mid-80s, with some humidity and a higher heat index.

She’s not a fan of what the weather does.

When it’s above 90 degrees, there’s no way, Cox said, to mix effort and the outdoors. Overall, climate change is not a good thing.

A stretch of humidity made the outside somewhat unappealing, but at least we didn’t live in Phoenix, where the temperatures are a blistering 110 degrees. Not just a day or a week, but they actually went that high for over two weeks.
